~たあとで :: AFTER WE HAVE DONE~ :: SEQUENCING TWO ACTIONS ::
:: PLAIN PAST AFFIRMATIVE た-FORM + あとで ::
:: PLAIN PAST AFFIRMATIVE た-FORM + あとで ::
Compare this structure to the VERB~てから (after doing) that we learnt in Level 1
- Both structures have essentially the same meaning, but ~たあとで conveys a stronger sense that the second action will not (or cannot) take place until after the first action has been completed.
つく (arrive) - ついた あとで (after we've arrived)
くつを ぬぐ (remove our shoes) - くつを ぬいだ あとで (after we've removed our shoes)
