Let's look at things from the point of view of the woman nearest to us
これ (kore) - THIS ONE

これ は３だん アイスクリーム です。
Kore wa san dan aisukuriimu desu. This is a 3-scoop icecream. From the point of view of the woman nearest to us, the ice cream she is holding is これ (kore) 'this one'.

それ (sore) - THAT ONE
|
それ は２だん アイスクリーム です。
Sore wa ni dan aisukuriimu desu. That is a 2-scoop icecream. From the point of view of the woman nearest to us, the ice cream that the shop assistant is holding is それ (sore), 'that one'.

あれ (are) - THAT ONE OVER THERE
|
あれ は なん です か。
Are wa nan desu ka. What's that? The ice cream character is not particularly close to either person, so we say あれ (are), 'that one over there'.

どれ (dore) - WHICH ONE?
|
どれ が ほしい です か。
Dore ga hoshii desu ka. Which one do you want? どれ (dore) means 'which one?'.
